Estimate how much engineered or solid wood flooring your room needs, with a wastage allowance for cuts, plus an indicative cost for boards and fitting.
Enter your room measurements below.
Wood flooring is sold by the pack, each covering a stated number of square metres. You order to your floor area plus a wastage allowance for end cuts, the offcut that starts each new row, and a few spare boards for future repairs. A 10% allowance suits most straight-laid rooms; wider boards and patterns can need more.
Wood needs an acclimatisation period in the room before fitting, and the method — floating, glued or nailed — affects the fitting cost shown here. Underlay, beading and thresholds are additional.
Around 10% for a standard straight lay. Wider boards, diagonal lays and patterns increase wastage, so allow 12–15% for those.
The cost range spans both. Engineered wood sits lower in the range, premium solid wood higher. Choose based on the room and whether you have underfloor heating.
No. Underlay, beading, thresholds and any on-site sanding or finishing are additional and are confirmed in a fitter's quote.
