How LVT is measured and sold

Luxury vinyl tile is sold by the pack, each covering a set area in square metres. You order to your floor area plus a wastage allowance for cuts around the edges and any damaged tiles. Straight-lay patterns waste less; herringbone and chevron waste more because of the angled cuts. This calculator uses a 10% allowance suited to a straight lay — add more if you plan a pattern.

Glue-down LVT needs a very flat, prepared subfloor, so allow for preparation alongside the material and fitting figures shown.

How to use this calculator

  1. Measure your room length and width in metres.
  2. Enter both figures into the calculator.
  3. Read the LVT area, including a 10% straight-lay wastage allowance.
  4. Add more wastage if you plan a herringbone or chevron pattern.
  5. Request a quote to confirm packs needed and fitting price.
When you have your estimate: request a quote and we will introduce you to verified flooring companies who can confirm the figures and price the work.
FAQ

Calculator questions

Allow about 10% for a straight lay. Herringbone and chevron patterns can need 15% or more because of the additional angled cuts.

It varies by product, but each pack states the square metres it covers. Divide your total area (with wastage) by the pack coverage and round up to whole packs.

Patterns like herringbone require each tile to be cut and angled precisely, which takes more time and skill, so fitting rates are higher than a straight lay.
